Further improving quality and delivery reliability
Always be better. With this guiding principle, Richard Weiss soon became a specialist in mass-produced turned parts. "Our quality and delivery reliability have helped us to gain the trust of several clients," explains Benjamin Hafner, Assistant Director of Work Preparation. "Without our processes, the company would certainly not be able to achieve its daily production run of 2.4 million turned parts. The checks, for example of the number of pieces currently produced, really help us."
In 2018, Richard Weiss planned to use new weighing solutions to enhance the quantity checks on the production and packaging lines. That was not without its challenges. According to Benjamin Hafner, "We wanted to determine quantities more easily, more quickly and more precisely, and for the process to be compatible with new 3rd-party hardware and software. We have had difficulties with that in the past, which cost us time and money. We cannot afford to waste either."
Smart weighing process
Richard Weiss chose Bizerba. "The good price-performance ratio was the deciding factor," says Mr Hafner. "The weighing scale is intelligently networked. The reference weight of the finished turned parts is determined on the FZ-i precision scale, and thanks to the automatic calibration, we get precise results at the push of a button. Item master data, reference weights and tolerance limits of the target quantity are stored in a central SQL database in the '_counting.BRAIN' software." The modular Bizerba counting stations are connected to this scale management system. Employees can use a PC to view the reference weight, and they now have a means of accurately checking the number of pieces on the load receptor.
More precise work
Benjamin Hafner's conclusions after a year: "The smart Bizerba systems make production more transparent and efficient. Plus, we are now self-sufficient when it comes to replacing components. Operation is easier for employees, because the current batch size is shown on the display and is easy to read. That saves time during filling, and makes the production shifts easier to plan. The quantity inspection gives us a more accurate picture of how many pieces still need to be produced for a large order. The data is stored in our ERP system. This results in an optimal workflow and data flow.
Our next project will be the installation of a Bizerba RFID solution, to further improve production accuracy."
